A few weeks ago, I shared a raw post about the heartbreak of watching my ADHD teen choose a college.
I am back to tell you what happened.
We were down to two options—neither perfect.
The front-runner, was the giant state school I privately called the lion’s den for its lack of ADHD friendly structure.
The other was a smaller, closer, private university with generous ADHD resources and, a scholarship.
I knew what I wanted for her, and my daughter knew what she wanted for herself — but our “musts” weren’t quite the same.
I knew the college choice had to be hers in the end — but what I’d learned about one school, and what I feared about the other, was eating away at me.
We agreed not to talk about it for a few days, even though the clock was ticking.
Then, just like on House Hunters, a surprise third option showed up — right on time.
Not the one we researched to death. Not the one that looked perfect on paper. But the one that felt right — to her.
When she said it out loud, it just…clicked. For both of us.
It’s still a large school, but it’s closer to home. The campus is beautiful, the cost more manageable, and it offers stronger support for undeclared students with ADHD, which puts our minds at ease.
It’s not what we pictured at the start, but it’s the perfect next step!
Thanks for reading. This one was close to the heart!
That is great news. Im so happy for her.
